Former Ripon High School teacher arrested for alleged inappropriate relationship with student

RIPON, Wis. (WFRV) - A former Ripon High School teacher, who resigned in May of 2017, has been arrested on charges of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student.

28-year-old Samantha Fitzpatrick faces four charges stemming from a relationship police say she had with a former student.

According to a criminal complaint, she has been charged with Child Enticement, Sexual Assault of a Student by School Staff, Exposing a Child to Harmful Material, and Obstructing an Officer.

Police say the investigation began back in April, when fellow teachers reported noticing Fitzpatrick talking to a male student instead of teaching class. They also reported that students had come to them with claims that the male student had said he had a sexual relationship with Fitzpatrick.

Teachers also noticed that the two would be missing from school on the same days.

When officers first talked to the male student, he claimed that an inappropriate relationship was not taking place.

Other students, however, informed police that Fitzpatrick and the male student communicated through several apps and texting, and that they met up in person outside of school often.

Police say that they were able to download messages between the teacher and student, and that those exchanges included sexually explicit messages and pictures.

According to the criminal complaint, Fitzpatrick's employment at Ripon High School ended on May 3rd.

Fitzpatrick is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing in Fond du Lac County Court on January 5th, 2018.
