GBAPS thanks donors, including Packers, for supporting new turf field

GREEN BAY, Wis. - On Friday night, the Green Bay Area School District held a ceremony to thank all of the donors and supporters of East High School's new turf field and track at City Stadium.

The turf field was unveiled back in August, and the brand new track was just laid down.

The Green Bay Packers Foundation was among the larger donors, contributing a $200,000 grant for East High School's new field.

The Packers have a special history with City Stadium at East High School because that is where they played for decades, from 1925 to 1956.

"It's an important part of who we are, it's an important part of Green Bay, it's an important part of the Packer heritage and history," Scott Mallien, activities director at East High School, said. "It's also important for us here at Green Bay East High School because the City Stadium was here, it was right on campus, and many legends and historic moments took place here."

The lines on the brand new track will be painted in the upcoming weeks, to get ready for spring track season.
