House fire started by dehumidifier

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) - Firefighters were busy Saturday night battling a basement fire.

Just before 7 P.M. Appleton Firefighters responded to West Lawrence Street.

The Appleton Fire Departmentsays, black smoke appeared to be coming from the basement.

No one was injured in the fire.

The fire is being investigated, but it appears the cause was a dehumidifier.

The Appleton Fire Department is reminding you that many models of dehumidifiers have been recalled due to serious fire and burn hazards.

Owners of dehumidifiers are encouraged to go to www.cpsc.gov and search dehumidifiers.
