Local town hall meeting request

GREEN BAY (WFRV) - Town hall forums are being considered a hot topic in the Political world.

So much so, several people in Northeast Wisconsin are wanting one with U.S. Representative Mike Gallagher.

One member of the general public held a news conference on Friday, wanting a town hall style meeting to be held by Gallagher.

Sumner Truax says the issue is Gallagher not being available.

"The main issue is he has refused opportunities for public engagement with him and instead has been holding events that are private or by invitation only or vetted or one on one sessions and we think a public servant has an obligation to public listening sessions," Truax said.

Earlier in the week, Gallagher talked about several issues of discussion on Local 5 This Morning.

One of them being town hall discussions, he said he refers to those meetings as political theater.

"It's destabilization and I just don't think that's responsible," Gallagher said.

He also continued to say, "I'm interested in having an honest civil discussion with anyone and I think anyone that contacts my office asking for a meeting or a roundtable, we try to be as accommodating as possible."

While on Local 5 This Morning, Gallagher also talked about the recent firing of FBI Director James Comey.
