FOND DU LAC (WFRV) - UPDATE: Fond du Lac Police have identified the man who was pulled from the Fond du Lac river early Wednesday morning as 57-year-old James Pugh of Fond du Lac.
The County Medical Examiner's Office has indicated the preliminary cause of death to be hypothermia with toxicology results pending.
Foul play is not suspected at this point in the investigation.
The incident remains under investigation.
Around 2:53 AM on Wednesday, Fond du Lac police officers and City of Fond du Lac Fire Rescue were called to the Fond du Lac River at the dead end of St. John St.
There were reports of an intoxicated man who was in the river.
When they arrived, they found a 57-year-old Fond du Lac man in the Fond du Lac River with his head above the water.
Police and Fire Rescue personnel were able to pull him from the river.
He was then taken to St. Agnes Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The incident remains under investigation. It's unclear if the man drowned.
