Runners gear up for Cellcom Marathon

GREEN BAY, Wis. -

Runners throughout the region, and across the country, are gearing up for the Cellcom Green BayMarathon this weekend, but preparations are already well underway.

People will be competing all weekend, and on Friday afternoon runners can register for the race and pick up their packets.

The annual marathon brings in 11,000 runners from 44 states and 14 countries.

It also brings in $1.2-million into the local economy.

Organizers say over the past 17 years, the marathon has also donated over $1-million to local charities.

The 5K and WPS Kids Power Run will be held on Saturday, with the full and half marathons being held on Sunday.


Free yoga for runners was introduced last year, and two sessions were added this year.

Those will be held Friday night and Saturday on the Oneida gate landing outside Lambeau.

The latest and greatest merchandise and resources for runners and fitness fanatics from over 50 vendors at the Lambeau Field Atrium.

Additional Course Information
The course will be well marked with cones, barricades, signs, police officials, and volunteers. All busy intersections will be patrolled by police. The finish line will close 7 hours after the last distance runner begins at approximately 2:10 pm.

No bicycling is allowed on the course.
Excluding the start and finish, the marathon course will have 20 water stations and the half marathon course will have 9 water stations. All of the stations will offer Nicolet Water and Gatorade Endurnace Formula. Volunteers will be trained to let runners know which product they are offering.  Each station will also have porta-potties.
Timing Mats will be located at miles 5, 10, 13.1, 15, 20 and one-mile-to-go. Each of these mats will be linked to the Cellcom cellular network for text message updates of your progress to family and friends. Sign up for this program will be available beginning May 1st.
There will be medical stations located at every water station along the course.
Medical Stations
All medical support for the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon is provided by our official medical sponsor Prevea Health.

Along the route:
There will be medical stations along the half-marathon and full-marathon routes. They will be highlighted by large red medical flags with a white cross. The stations are primarily staffed by licensed athletic trainers, paramedics, emergency medical technicians and nurses providing general first aid needs. If a medical emergency arises, the local 911 system is activated.


Finish line medical tent:
The main medical tent at the finish line is fully staffed with health care professionals from many disciplines with the capability to handle any general first aid needs or medical emergencies. Ambulances are also onsite to provide emergency transportation if needed.
