Several Wisconsin Counties issue same-sex marriage licenses

-

Brown County, Wis.(WFRV) - Since a federal judge overturned Wisconsin's ban on gay marriage last week, clerks in Dane and Milwaukee Counties have begun issuing marriage licenses to same sex couples.

Nearly 150 couples received them in Milwaukee County over the weekend and around 140 in Dane County. But not all the clerks offices have begun issuing those licenses.

In Brown County, they're waiting for more answers on what to do from state officials in Madison.

"We are waiting on direction from state vital records on how to process these. Once we get that direction we certainly will be able to assist them during normal business hours just like all traditional marriages." says Brown County Clerk Sandy Juno.

Another issue remaining is whether this ruling will stand.

State Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen filed a motion in the U.S. District Court seeking an emergency stay on the ruling as he plans an appeal.
