Summer employees hard to find in Oshkosh

Oskkosh, Wis. (WFRV) - The low unemployment rate in Wisconsin could prove to be a problem this summer.

Typically now is the time when students look for part time work, but some business owners say they are struggling to find employees.

Open for nearly seven decades of business in Oshkosh, workers at Ardy and Ed's Drive In say the last couple years have proved tough hiring summer workers.

"We just have faced a shortage of staff that we really can't make up for by just continuing to work everyone more," said Steve Davis, the restaurant's co-owner.

The restaurant has always been open seven days a week in the summer, but with fewer people on staff this year, they'll close early at night and close the doors on Monday altogether.

This trend of unemployment, Davis says, is not uncommon in Oshkosh right now.

"The conversation gets brought up wherever you go, we see they're help wanted signs in the doors," he said. " I dont know that I could name a restaurant owner in town that would say he has a full staff."

According to the staff that is here, they will treasure their job and continue to work hard for their customers.

Davis says, "To not be able to get enough people, to do it well and make our customers happy is a sad thing for us."

He also adds the best way to apply for any open position is to apply in person, or on the company's website which can be found here.
