KAUKAUNA, Wis. (WFRV) - 'One Bar' Tavern Owner Brain Wood supports injured state trooper Justin Hansen Saturday by holding a community benefit.

Trooper Hansen was injured in January while tending to Wood's car on Highway 41 after his vehicle spun out on a patch of ice. Hansen was setting up safety cones to alert oncoming traffic of the incident, when a seperate vehicle hit the same patch of ice and ended up pinning trooper Hansen between his squad car and the other vehicle.

Hansen's leg was amputated, but now three months later, he is walking and his hope is high.

"I'm feeling okay, so far," Hansen said. "But it's early... Considering what I'm going through, I can't complain."

Wood said that throwing a benefit for the trooper who was just doing his job and helping him out this winter was the least he could do.

"I'm proud of him," Wood said. "Everybody is proud of him."

The two have become good friends during the past couple of months, though both admit they wish they could have met under different circumstances.

The benefit included food, music, drinks and an auction. All proceeds will go to supporting Hansen and his family during the lengthy recovery period.

Hansen said he hopes to be back in his sqaurd car and patrolling the roads by 2015.
