Wisconsin fire fighters union president announces gubernatorial run

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - Governor Scott Walker has yet another challenger in the 2018 Gubernatorial race.

Democrat Mahlon Mitchell, the state Fire Fighters' Union leader announced his bid Monday at Al's Hamburger in Green Bay. 

Mitchell is the youngest person to serve as President of the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin in the union's history, as well as the first African American.

He was an opponent of Act 10, the collective bargaining legislation that led to Governor Walker's recall election. 

The two have a lengthy history, as they went to the same high school.

More than a dozen other Democrats are considering a run, with several formally filing the paperwork. 

Notable names in the pack include State Superintendent Tony Evers, State Senator Kathleen Vinehout, former Democratic Party Chairman Matt Flynn and Milwaukee businessman Andy Gronik. 

The primary for the gubernatorial race will be held on is August 14th, 2018 and the election will be held on November 6th of that year.
