Zion Lutheran Wayside cancels classes for sickness

Greenleaf, Wis. (WFRV) - This year's deadly cold and flu season has hit home.  A school in Brown County canceled classes on Tuesday because the staff was just too sick.

Zion Lutheran Wayside is a small school of about 90 students and roughly 10 teachers.

Some teachers fell sick, and with not enough substitutes to fill in, the principal felt it was best to allow a day for the staff to re-cooperate.

But it's not just Brown County, many Fox Valley school districts are getting hit hard with sickness.

"We definitely are seeing influenza," said Kara Kramer, school nurse for the Little Chute Area School District.

Kramer says the cold and flu has made it around to the staff and students at Little Chute, especially before Christmas.

She says the best advice for any parent dealing with a sick child is to just keep them home.

"If they seem as though at home they are really not doing very well, and especially at this time of the year, keep them home."

That's because a day off from school for one student is much better than a day off for an entire school.
