BROWN COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) - The Brown County drug task force made one of the largest busts in department history.

They are working to shut down a ring accused of bringing millions of dollars of drugs to our community.

Over the last year the Sheriff's Office estimates the group brought in more than 1200 pounds of marijuana with a street value of roughly $6 million.

Verge Medina  is behind bars, accused of heading up the ring.

Officials believe he paid an estimated $3.5 million over the past year for the marijuana which was then sold by other dealers.

In court today he was charged with nine different counts.

According to the Sheriff's Office large plastic shipping containers were arriving at various Brown and Outagamie county address , twice a week.

They were packed full of marijuana, from San Francisco.

Medina would fly back to San Francisco typically carrying $60,000-80,000 in cash as payment for the marijuana he received.

"We know that the vast majority of marijuana that comes into the state, comes this way. FedEx, UPS, US mail. Its parcels " explains Lt. Dave Poteat with the Brown County Sheriff's Office.

After weeks of surveillance the drug task force moved in.

They seized eleven pounds of pot and more than $200,000 in cash.

An Audi S4 and an Audi A6 and a BMW 745i, , Ducati motorcycle, mini-cycle, Lexus SC 300, and BMW 650i were also confiscated.

"They were dealers and the easy money that can come with this is just as addictive" says Lt. Poteat.

More than 7,000 rounds of ammunition were also taken for evidence.

"There were 20 weapons" Lt. Poteat explains.

While this bust makes history it is not a quick fix.

"We know that there are organizations operating at this level, millions of dollars in marijuana in this area every month, and this is just a piece of that" he says.

Investigators ask the public to be their eyes.

"We encourage tips. We do not want the public to take any action, but get license plate numbers if they can and report that to the drug tip line" encourages Brown County Sheriff John Gossage.

Information about this or any other drug activity can be left on the county tip line at (920) 497-DRUG (3784).

Medina's girlfriend Chelsea Cornette was also arrested in the bust.

Additional people are expected to face charges as brown county wraps up this investigation.
