ALLOUEZ, Wis. (WFRV) - Neighbors of the old Hill Top Apartment complex are fired up over the proposal to build a new apartment complex on the vacant lot.

"It's very disconcerting," Mike Moore says.

Mike Moore is just one of many residents who worry the rendering of the new building fails to recognize traffic congestion and visitor parking regulations which he says could jeopardize current residents' safety.

"With people exceeding 25 mph, I find it very uncomfortable that somebody is likely to get hurt," he says.

Another neighbor, John Shimon shares Moore's concerns.

"When I saw the plan," Shimon says, "the driveway that comes out around the back of the building right onto hilltop drive looks like it's encouraging residents to shoot up and down hilltop drive to get in and out of their parking spots."

Monday evening the Allouez Plan Commission tried to address some of those concerns.

"We looked at how does this for within the community and based on what we heard we did listen to the community," Plan Commission Chair Chris Culotta says.

The Hill Top apartments were destroyed in a fire last May, displacing more than 100 people. This new 48 unit building would take its place. Culotta says they've come along way since their first few meetings.

"We look at the comprehensive plans and we're trying to say how can we can we get a development that's going to meet the needs of the residents and the those living in this new apartment complex."

The proposal heads to the village board May 6th. They may make more adjustments.
