At this week's Farm Technology Days you did not have to look far to find an expert in every agriculture topic.

Tonight's terrific teacher is one of many making sure our strong farming heritage has a bright future.

Membership in Wisconsin's Future Farmers of America is just shy of 19,000, a 28 year high.

"I am fortunate to work with over 250 agriculture education programs and FFA chapters throughout the state" says State FFA advisor Jeff Hicken. "Green Bay has been a strong program for us for the last couple of years and they are going to add another teacher for us as well. Urban agriculture programs are starting to grow".

A program will start up this fall in Milwaukee.

Several teachers are still needed across the state.

"To have eight positions open at this time of year we are a little nervous how we are going to fill them come fall" says Hicken.

He attributes the boom in membership to the diversity of programs now offered including horticulture and vet science.

FFA connects kids with animals, the land and hopefully a career.

"They take what they learned into the real world. That is where the FFA really connects us all together" says Hicken.
