The Packers third training camp practice began at 8:20 a.m. and lasted 2:26. It marked the team’s first padded practice and, as expected, the energy was high. Mike McCarthy said he thought the pressure periods were very strong on both sides and that he looked forward to watching the tape.

With the first real contact there surprisingly weren’t many scuffles, but Mike McCarthy did send Datone Jones off the field during Hurry Up for getting too chipper. During 1-on-1 drills, Julius Peppers tossed David Bakhtiari aside like a rag doll, but later Bryan Bulaga stood Peppers up twice. Bulaga suffered a season-ending hip injury in 2012 and then tore his acl last July on Family Night and was lost for the season, but it seems as if he’s back to full-strength.

Former Packer Jonathan Franklin was at practice today. Franklin suffered a season-ending neck injury last season (his rookie year), the injury ended up being career-ending as Franklin stepped away from the game in June. Franklin’s former teammates were excited to see him. McCarthy referred to Franklin as a “class act” and “as fine a young-man as I’ve seen walk thru those doors” and said the team would like to keep Franklin affiliated with the organization in some capacity, but he McCarthy said he had nothing to release at this time.
