Installation practices are over, so the Packers 9th workout of training camp Tuesday afternoon had a different format:
“Have to get out of an installation phase and transition to a game type environment.. start doing (game) cards, really start anticipating what we may see Saturday in Tennessee,” Mike McCarthy explained.
"It's tough, some of these teams got new coaches so you don't know exactly what they'll do, so you're watching their old team and then watching the Titans we're about to go play, try to see their personnel and what not, so it just gets you more back into a rhythm of a typical game week which is more enjoyable for us instead of doing installs that we all know as veterans and going against our guys all the time,” said Jordy Nelson.
The 10-period workout ran 1:41, the shortest of camp. Players that did not participate: Letroy Guion, Jerel Worthy, Michael Hill, Tanner Miller, Colt Lyerla, Jared Abbrederis (out for season with ACL injury), Morgan Burnett (suffered oblique strain in Monday’s practice)
Don Barclay was suffered a knee injury during a blitz drill and had to be carted off the field.
“Frankly I was standing right behind him, got himself in a bad position so he's being evaluated and we'll know more probably tonight… He's exactly what you're looking for if you want someone to emulate what a Green Bay Packer football player is on and off the field, he's definitely one of your guys. So I just hope it's not serious,” McCarthy said after practice.
“He adds a ton of value to this line, typically don't get a sixth guy that can play that many positions and has had that much experience, 20 games or so started so that would be a big one if he's down,” said Josh Sitton.
Barclay started 14 games at right tackle in 2013, after Bryan Bulaga suffered a torn ACL on family night and was lost for the season. Barclay is the #1 sub for multiple positions on the line. Since practice there have been multiple reports that Barclay tore his acl – however the team has not confirmed that.
Former General Manager Ron Wolf attended practice and roamed the field visiting with coaches and players. His son, Elliot Wolf is the Packers Director of Pro Personnel.
