Last season, the Oshkosh Lourdes Knights were one victory away from a trip to the WIAA Division 4 State Boys Basketball Tournament. This year, they're 19-3 and a number 1 seed with regionals beginning this week.
The 19-3 Knights, like the top three or four seeds in each half-sectional, received a first round bye and will begin their tournament Friday night in the regional semifinals. Lourdes' only losses this season are to Oshkosh North, Racine Lutheran and Randolph.
Seeded #2 in that half of the Antigo sectional are the 20-2 Bonduel Bears, who won a conference championship this season for the first time since the mid-90's. Bonduel was beaten by Lourdes in last year's regional finals. If the Bears and Knights each win twice this coming week, they'll face off in the sectional semifinals in Seymour on Thursday, March 8th. The winner of that sectional semifinal will travel to Antigo on Saturday, March 10th. 21-1 Auburndale and 18-4 Stratford are the top 2 seeds on the top half of the sectional.
The 19-3 Laconia Spartans are the #1 seed in their half of the Brookfield Central sectional. 17-5 St. Mary's Springs, who split their two meetings with Laconia in the regular season, is the #2 seed. The #1 ranked team in Division 4, 21-1 Whitefish Bay Dominican, likely awaits whomever comes out of that half-sectional in the sectional final.
