Former Notre Dame coach John Nowak passes away

GREEN BAY (WFRV) - Just months after finishing his final year with Notre Dame, former Tritons head coach John Nowak passed away.

Nowak spent 27 of his 31 years in coaching with the Tritons. During his career Nowak tallied 225 wins, and was enshrined in the Wisconsin Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 2004.

Wednesday morning the school that Nowak helped bring to prominence on the gridiron announced the passing of their long time coach.

Nowak led Notre Dame to two WIAA state titles and four title appearances since Notre Dame joined the association in 2000. Before that, he went to four WISAA state title games and won the D1 championship in 1992.

In the summer of 2016 Nowak announced the following season would be his last at Notre Dame. Nowak led the Tritons to Camp Randall, and fell to Catholic Memorial in the state title game.
