Notre Dame Hockey wins State Quarterfinal

Tony Stillwell scored a pair of goals, while Chris Nell made 33 saves as the Notre Dame Tritons defeated Superior 5-1 Thursday night in a WIAA State Hockey Quarterfinal in Madison.

The matchup featured the top two ranked teams in the state.  Notre Dame had defeated Superior twice in the regular season.

After a scoreless first period, the Tritons got on the board in the second with goals from Jason Reynolds and Jared Zirbel.  Superior's Daniel Litchke answered  to make it a 2-1 game heading into the final period.

Notre Dame put the game away, as Stillwell and Brett Gruber scored goals in a 35 second span early in the 3rd.  Stillwell added his second goal late in the contest.

The Tritons advance to the state semfinals for the third consecutive year.  They will face Verona Friday night at approximately 8:15 at the Alliant Energy Center.
