(WFRV-TV) - "I had no idea that Buzz would ever leave Marquette," Seymour senior and Marquette recruit Sandy Cohen recounted Thursday.

"So when I heard, it was a shock."

Ironically the 1st team All-State basketball player found out about Buzz Williams bolting Marquette for Virginia Tech via a "buzz" in his pocket.

"I heard it from an ESPN app on my phone," said Cohen.  "I heard the buzz and looked at it.  I was like 'is this true or what?'"

Cohen called the ensuing couple of weeks "crazy."  College coaches were calling his high school and AAU coaches after Cohen asked Marquette for his release and expressed a desire to re-open his recruitment.

Then Marquette hired former Duke assistant coach Steve Wojciechowski, and the idea of looking elsewhere quickly disappeared.

"He made me a priority," said Cohen.  "I was the first guy that he visited so that kind of meant a lot to me that he came to my house.  He drove down from Milwaukee on the second day on the job.  There's a lot of things you've got to do when you first get hired as a coach, so it means a lot that he came down the second day to come visit me and my family."

Not only did "Coach Wojo" say all the right things and forge an immediate connection with Cohen, the new head coach's credentials spoke for itself.

"He's coached for Team USA under 'Coach K' (Mike Krzyzewski) for 4 years and he played for Coach K at Duke," said Cohen. He has a great resume.  He's been there and he's done that stuff so that's what I really liked about him.  He's been a player and he's been through a lot."

And so has Cohen.  Now that he's re-committed to his dream school, the Seymour standout is ready to create his own buzz at the next level.

"My excitement is a 10," said Cohen.  "I just can't wait to get down there on campus and be apart of what Coach Wojo has coming for Marquette.  I just can't wait."
