The WIAA State Track and field Meet began friday morning in La Crosse with Division 1 competition.
In the girls pole vault, Ashwaubenon junior Alex Flucke tied the state record of 12 feet, 6 inches, set by fellow Jaguar Liza Lewis in 2003. Arrowhead's Cami Gilson also cleared 12'-6", and the bar was raised to 12 feet, 9 inches. Neither athlete cleared 12'-9" in their three attempts, but Flucke won her second straight state championship, due to having fewer misses overall.
The Neenah girls 4x800 meter relay squad also repeated as state champs, and their time of 9:00.42 set a new state record, breaking an 18 year-old mark set by Marinette in 1994.
The other area champion from Friday morning's session was Plymouth's Haley Johnson, who captured the girls 3200 meter run.
