Marquette's season ends with 55-39 loss to Syracuse in regional final

A dominant defensive performace by the the Syracuse Orange ended a great season for the Marquette Golden Eagles one game short of the Final Four.

Syracuse defeated Marquette 55-39 in the East regional final of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament in Washington, D. C. on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles (26-9) had no answers for the Orange's 2-3 zone, and shot just 22.6% from the field, and 3-25 (12.0%) from three-point range.  Vander Blue and Davante Gardner each scored 14 points to lead Marquette.

"They beat us from start to finish," Golden Eagles head coach Buzz Williams said.  "Syracuse was great from start to finish."

It was the first appearance in the Elite 8 since 2003 for Marquette.  Ironically, that was the year of Syracuse's last trip to the Final Four.
