(WFRV-TV) - The Green Bay Packers announced the release of QB Graham Harrell, WR Alex Gillett, WR Omarious Hines, DT Gilbert Pena, WR Justin Wilson, and RB Angelo Pease Sunday. The team must get down to 75 players by Tuesday Afternoon.
The Packers returned to practice Sunday for the first time since their 17-10 loss to Seattle Friday in the third preseason contest. It was a short practice and contained mainly walk-through work and a special teams period.
Perhaps the biggest move of the day: Green Bay has signed a third kicker, rookie Zach Ramirez from Portland State. As a junior in 2011, Ramirez was named an FCS All-American by the AP, but he was limited to only 7 field goal attempts as a senior due to a knee injury. During Sunday’s kicking competition Ramirez connected on 10 of 11 field goal attempts, only missing from 45 yards. Mason Crosby was also 10 for 11, and also missed a 45 yard attempt. Giorgio Tavecchio was 9 for 11 on field goal attempts, missing from 45 and 63 yards. Both Ramirez and Crosby connected on 63 yard field goals with a strong wind at their backs.
As far as injuries go: WR Jordy Nelson practiced for the first time since undergoing knee surgery, and could play Thursday against Kansas City. Safety Morgan Burnett and CB Casey Hayward both sat out of practice with hamstring injuries suffered vs. Seattle, and both will miss the final season preseason game. Brad Jones was able to do some of the walk-through work, and it seems his hamstring injury suffered Friday is less severe than Burnett and Hayward.
The Packers return to practice Monday at 11:30 at Ray Nitschke Field.
