Murphy says there are no plans to retire Favre's number with a ceremony in 2014, but Murphy suggested they franchise would like Favre to be inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame and have his number retired prior to being eligible to enter the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016.
"We've had ongoing discussions with him, very good relations," said Murphy at the annual Packers shareholders meeting Thursday. "We are talking about bringing him back for a game this year. We had discussions last year about bringing him back for a game, those were not fruitful. But we are hopeful we can get him back for a game this year."
Despite some recent views to the contrary, Murphy believe Favre would receive a favorable reception in his return to Titletown.
"They're going to look back and see the entirety of what he did, not just the last few years when he played for the Vikings," said Murphy. "He's arguably the best, or one of the best players in the history of the Packers. Probably had as big an impact on the organization as anybody in the history of the organization. I'm very hopeful that when he does come back he will be fully, fully supported by our fans."
