The Green Bay Packers officially announced the signing of kicker Giorgio Tavecchio Tuesday.

Tavecchio was in training camp with the San Francisco 49ers as a rookie last season before being cut late in camp.

The left-footed kicker attended the University of California where he made 48-of-64 field goals (75%) during his four years.  The Milan, Italy native went made 20 of 23 field goal attempts his senior season but also missed six extra points.

The move means the Packers will provide Mason Crosby with some competition for the first time since 2007.  Crosby struggled last season connecting on just 21 of 33 attempts.
