back and force overtime.
“I had no doubt, looking at the guys eyes in the huddle, I didn't think that there was any doubt,” Matt Flynn told us. “Especially when we started making some plays I think that hyped up the sideline, hyped up the guys and we just felt like we couldn't be stopped and that's how you gotta go about it, that's the mentality you have to have.”
“We thought we had some opportunities early, we have history with Matt. Did I think he was ready as far as the amount of reps and getting ready? That was not available to him since he's been here but he went out there and played football and did a lot of good things today,” Mike McCarthy said.
Unfortunately it wasn't enough. The Packers scored a field goal on their first drive in overtime, but the Vikings matched it. And two more Green Bay possessions didn't translate into any points. The game ended in a tie.“We knew our offense got down there and gave us those points, it was up to us. That was an opportunity for us as a defense to step up and we just couldn't get it done. It was almost like a little bit earlier in the game you know when they were kind of driving and we just didn't have an answers for them. I give them credit, can't sit here and make excuses they pounded the ball on us and did it really well today,” A.J. Hawk commented.
“That last three minutes, I think we had two false starts and stuff like that penalties in a time like that it'll kill you,” Andrew Quarless weighed in.Fortunately for the Packers, the Lions and the Bears lost today so Green Bay is just a half game behind the two in the NFC North race. But still, the franchise's first tie
since 1987 is hard to process.
“Feels like a loss for sure. No one here is real familiar with tying a football game. It's my first one,” Hawk said.
“We're all disappointed. We needed that win and we all know it but things aren't over, we just need to get on a roll and keep doing the things we can do, Flynn commented.
The Packers don’t have a lot of time to chew on this one with less than four days before a Thanksgiving date with the Lions in Detroit.
