4-run 8th leads Pirates past Brewers

The Brewers appeared headed for a sweep over the Pirates on Wednesday afternoon, before a Pittsburgh 8th inning rally.

Led by a four-run 8th innning, the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Milwaukee Brewers, 6-4, on Wednesday afternoon at Miller Park in Milwaukee.

The Pirates avoided a sweep at the hands of the Brewers with the victory.

The Brewers grabbed the early lead when Ryan Braun singled home Jean Segura in the first, then back-to-back homers from Carlos Gomez and Yuniesky Betancourt gave Milwaukee a 3-1 lead in the fourth.

Hiram Burgos had a solid day on the mound for the Brewers, going seven innings, allowing just two runs on four hits. He gave way to John Axford in the 8th inning, up 4-2.

Axford, however, allowed a two-run homer to Starling Marte which tied the game. Brandon Inge then gave Pittsburgh the lead with an RBI single.

Axford (0-3) took the loss, allowing four runs in 2/3 innings.

The Brewers (14-12) begin a four game weekend series with the St. Louis Cardinals Thursday night in Milwaukee.
