Brewers Fall to Pirates in Marcum's Return to the Mound

Shaun Marcum allowed four unearned runs in the 5th inning in his first start with the Brewers since hurting his elbow in June.

Errors by Carlos Gomez and Jeff Bianchi opened the door for the Pirates to score four unearned runs in the 5th inning off a returning Shaun Marcum Saturday night in Pittsburgh.

The Brewers were shutout 4-0, and never advanced past second base while Pirates' starter Jeff Karstens was in the game.  Karstens left the game with an arm injury in the 8th, but not before holding the Brewers to seven hits and no runs through seven innings.

Marcum appeared on the mound for Milwaukee for the first time since injuring his elbow in mid-June.

After the 5th inning errors, Michael McKenry had an RBI double and scored on Karstens single. Jose Tabata followed with an RBI double and scored on a Travis Snider single.

Pittsburgh closer Joel Hanrahan loaded the bases in the 9th before striking out Nyjer Morgan to end the game.

Aramis Ramirez went 3-4 for Milwaukee and Bianchi went 2-4 and recorded his first two Major League hits.
