Cat Island project nearly complete

The project involves dredging a channel into the Port of Green Bay and a wave barrier
SUAMICO, Wis. (WFRV) - A project designed to make the Port of Green Bay more accessible and protect wildlife at the same time is nearly complete.

The project involves dredging a channel in Green Bay and the creation of a 4.5 mile wave barrier.

Once the barrier is completed, 3 man-made islands will be built out of materials from the lake.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says the islands will also provide habitat for fish and shore birds.

The project will cost more than $23 million.
