Catholic leaders: Pope Francis is having an impact of church morale

The Catholic religion seems to be thriving eight months after a new pope takes the reins.
HOWARD, Wis. (WFRV) - The Catholic religion seems to be thriving eight months after a new pope takes the reins. It's being called "The Pope Francis Effect."

Church leaders around the world are seeing more and more Catholics coming back to the church because of the pope's actions.

Here at home, local church-goers and leaders agree.

"I think people are looking and saying, 'I just recognize the gospel that I love and that I want to follow myself,'" explained Father John Bergstadt, of St. John the Baptist Church in Howard. "I think he's helping us tremendously like that."

"I'm optimistic that he is bringing it in a direction that will include more people and get more people to come back to church," David Molzahn commented.

Local Catholics said Pope Francis has brought out a greater confidence in their religion.
