Dairy Margin Protection

With the passage of the Farm Act of 2014 dairy has a new risk management tool. Reaction to the program and its value and impact on dairy producers was discussed at a recent midwest cooperative meeting held in Appleton.
With the passage of the 2014 Farm Act... the dairy industry found itself with a new risk management tool. The new dairy margin protection plan is replacing the MILC program as a producers safety net. Although a new concept that will require a bit of a learning curve for producers.... many in the industry feel it will not only be well accepted by dairymen but will be beneficial to them as well. One word of caution however, there are those industry leaders who feel the new program will require a higer level of knowldge and particpation than previous federal dairy policies for it to truely work.
