Wisconsin same-sex marriage law still in limbo

The Wisconsin Federal Court Judge who overturned the state's gay marriage ban is moving up the injunction hearing.

Madison, Wis.(WFRV)- The Wisconsin Federal Court Judge who overturned the state's gay marriage ban is moving up the injunction hearing.

Judge Barbara Crabb has moved the hearing from June 19th to Friday June 13th. Both those for and against the ruling have turned in their paperwork.

Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen is trying to appeal the status of same-sex marriage with a higher court. In Chicago, the 7th District Court of Appeals has told Local 5 they received a memorandum from Attorney General Van Hollen. Officials must decide if the court is allowed to take up the case. There is no timeline as to when a decision will be made.

Winnebago County has announced it is also issuing same-sex marriage licenses. According to the county clerk, it was unfair to keep refusing licenses based upon a state constitutional provision ruled unconstitutional.

Local 5's Kris Schuller spoke with Winnebago County Clerk Sue Ertmer about the ruling.
