KIMBERLY, Wis. (WFRV) - Kimberly's Eric Vander Loop or "Mr. Looper" was chosen as one of 30 teachers nationwide, to be honored at the All-Star game in Minnesota.

"We showed up it was VIP treatment from the beginning" he says.

Vander Loop was nominated by a student's grandmother, for his lessons kids take far beyond the classroom.

"When I started teaching I always felt like if you invested yourself, in kids and you taught them that education was a vehicle to do cool things, they would do it" he explains.

Mr. Looper's kids started a cancer fundraiser several years ago called "Unless". It has grown into a community wide project raising more than $120,000 to fight the disease.

"Things can get bigger and be noticed and you can do some pretty cool stuff" he says with pride.

"Cool stuff" like being featured in People Magazine.

Of the 30 All-Star Teachers, Mr. Looper and his students were the only ones to get a spread.

"They put foundation on me and lip gloss" he says with a laugh.

While in Minnesota for the big game, the teachers rubbed elbows with baseball royalty.

But, the highlight for Vander Loop was a parade thrown in their honor.

"Everybody is yelling go teachers and they are cheering and on their feet, and whoa it was overwhelming" Vander Loop says with tears in his eyes.

Emotion and compassion he instills in his kids through the annual "Unless" fundraiser.

He encourages them to find their passion.

"Your Unless thing could be anything. If you take that seed, that planted seed that is given to you, and you go out and give of yourself, you can make a difference in whatever you do" he says.

A lesson that proves why this terrific teacher, is truly an All Star.

"For me it was like a dream come true".
