Rodgers made his preseason debut, leading Green Bay to a 21-7 over the Rams at the Edward Jones Dome. The Packers star signal-caller finished 11/13 for 128 yards and a touchdown, while also adding 14 yards on the ground on a single carry. Rodgers directed a pair of 12-play drives, the first ending with a three yard touchdown pass to Randall Cobb. The Packers had to settle for a 31 yard FG on the second drive, after a Jordy Nelson touchdown was negated by a penalty.
"I like the tempo," said Rodgers. "We talk about that a lot in practice. It's tough to simulate unless you're in a game situation. You can do it for a time in practice, but usually you don't usually simulate 12 play drives, and calling that many plays. That was good for us."
"I thought Aaron was excellent," said Head Coach Mike McCarthy. "Just his decision-making, obviously ball accuracy, and completion percentage. He did a heck of a job."
Eddie Lacy also made his preseason debut after being a healthy inactive in week one. Lacy finished with 25 yards rushing on five carries, and added 22 yards receiving on a pair of receptions.
"As far as timing goes, I think the timing was great," said Lacy of the work with the offensive line. I got to my landmarks whenever we were supposed to make a cut. I was able to make the cut whether I was inside or continued to go outside. Even though I didn't play last week, I feel like I pretty much picked up where I left off."
Scott Tolzien got the second chance to lead the offense at QB this week, after Matt Flynn received that responsibility against the Titans. Tolzien was knocked around behind a leaky second-team offensive line, but still finished 10/15 for 107 yards. Flynn was 2/3 for 44 yards and a touchdown. The score came on a crossing route where Flynn hit 7th round pick Jeff Janis in stride and the speedy WR from D-2 Saginaw Valley St. did the rest out-running the defense untouched for a 34 yard TD.
The Packers defense played well, allowing only seven points, and recording seven sacks on the day. Rookie undrafted free agent OLB Jayrone Elliot recorded three sacks and a forced fumble over the span of four plays in the second half.
