Report: Packers move Van Pelt to quarterbacks coach

The Packers will reportedly make running backs coach Alex Van Pelt the team's new quarterbacks coach.
The Green Bay Packers are promoting from within when it comes to naming a new quarterbacks coach.

According to multiple reports on Thursday, running backs coach Alex Van Pelt will replace Ben McAdoo, who became the offensive coordinator of the New York Giants.

The move of Van Pelt to QB coach was highly speculated, given his history.  Van Pelt was a quarterback in the league for a decade, and has had stints with both the Bills and Buccaneers as quarterbacks coach, before being hired by the Packers in 2012.

Van Pelt's name had come up in connection with the Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator job, but he is still under contract with the Packers, who would have needed to grant him permission to speak with another team.

Green Bay still has two open spots on the team's coaching staff.  Van Pelt's move opens up the running back coach job, and outside linebackers coach Kevin Greene stepped down last week.
