Training Camp Report 8-1-14

Notes on the Packers' 6th practice of training camp.

The Packers’ 6th practice marked the teams 3rd straight day in pads. Today’s workout ran 2:11.

A pair of rookies were added to the injury list. Jared Abbrederis sat out of practice today with what Mike McCarthy classified as a knee injury. Fellow rookie Corey Linsley has a shoulder injury. McCarthy didn’t have updates on the severity of injuries (Nor does he have during camp). Jerel Worthy (back), Letroy Guion (hamstring) and Jeff Janis (illness) are still sidelined, but Safety Morgan Burnett did return to practice as a full participant after missing most of the last two days with an ankle injury.

Wide Receiver Kevin Dorsey (after missing all of last year on IR) is getting a lot of looks on specials teams and is making plays on offense when given the opportunity. Tight End Brandon Bostick had a great back-shoulder red zone touchdown over Jarrett Bush on a throw from Scott Tolzien during red zone period. Later Bush would get Bostick back during the 4-minute offense session. After Bostick caught a pass over the middle, Bush knocked the ball out, forcing the fumble and a recovery by the defense.

Rookie second-round pick Devante Adams stood out receiving 3 touchdowns on the day, 2 of them were in the red zone blitz drill from Matt Flynn. Later Adams caught a goal line touchdown when he out-jumped Jumal Rolle. Flynn looked sharp overall in the red zone, but as a whole, the offense didn’t look overly sharp as they continue installation periods.

Colt Lyerla caught a couple passes including a touchdown, it appears he may be shaking off the rust after not playing football last year. McCarthy says he thinks that observation is fair, that Colt’s a young guy that needs to get reps, he’s sure the time out (away from the game) didn’t help him.

The NFL refs have been in town the past two days. The players are continuing to try to adjust to what they can and can’t do and there have been plenty of flags thrown at practice. McCarthy said his players just need to keep playing with good technique. Tramon Williams was also very vocal about it in the locker room but says the players must and will adjust.
