Two people are dead following a report of a suspicious person in Marinette County.

Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Suave reported that at 10:09 pm on Monday, July 1, 2013 the sheriff's office received a call from a man who said he had found a suspicious person at his family cabin off of North 5th Rd in the town of pound.  The caller then stated that the suspicious person was armed.  Shortly after that we received a call of a vehicle that had crashed into a residence in the same area.

Officers and rescue personnel were able to remove an injured male from the crashed vehicle and later determined he had been the victim of a gun shot wound.  This male victim, who was in his late 20's was taken to Bay Area Medical Center in Marinette and was transferred to a Green Bay hospital where he later died.  The investigation led officers to another location in the same area.  There they located a male subject armed with a shot gun and a hand gun inside of a vehicle.   This male suspect who is believed to be in his late 70's refused multiple commands from officers to surrender.  With the assistance of an armored vehicle from the Brown County Sheriff's Department the vehicle was pinned in so the suspect could not flee in it.

Eventually the suspect put officers in jeopardy by pointing a weapon in their direction.  Officers fired and this male suspect is deceased at the scene.  No officers were injured.  We no longer believe the public is in any danger.  The Sheriffs Office is being assisted at the scene by Marinette Police Department, Wisconsin Department of Justice, Wisconsin State Crime Lab, Coleman Rescue, Bay Area Medical Center Paramedics, Coleman Fire and Coroner George Smith.  This investigation is ongoing and additional information will be released at a later time.
