UPDATE: Police Shoot Shoplifter

APPLETON, Wisc. (WFRV) Appleton police will hold a press conference today where they're expected to release more details about last night's shooting.

Police say a man was sent to the hospital after an officer involved shooting.

It happened on around 7:30 this evening on the south side of Appleton, in the 1300 block of South Monroe St.

Officers say they responded to a report of a shoplifting incident. When they arrived, the suspect pulled a gun on them. Police opened fire after the suspect refused to put the gun down.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital. The extent of his injuries are not known.  No officers were injured.

Green Bay Police have been called in to investigate the shooting.
