Former Bullfrog and Timber Rattler Josh Prince Living Dream With Brewers

Brewers SS Josh Prince is the first former Green Bay Bullfrogs player to make it to Major League Baseball

Your first base hit is something no Major League Baseball player will ever forget.  For Brewers rookie shortstop Josh Prince it came on April 7th, in his third career at-bat.

"I was facing J.J. Putz who obviously is a great pitcher," Prince.  "I knew it was a big situation, down by two in the 9th.  He threw me a pitch that I felt like I could drive and I put a good swing on it and hit it over the center fielders head for a double."

With his parents in the crowd, Prince soaked in the roar of the Miller Park crowd.

"I get to second base and its instant chills," Prince said.  "When the fans stood up and started screaming in excitement, I still don't have a word to describe the feeling I had in that experience."

In less than five years, Prince went from playing for the Green Bay Bullfrogs of the Northwoods League to Major League Baseball with the Milwaukee Brewers, becoming the first Bullfrog player ever to make it to the big leagues.

"My experience that I first had in Green Bay was absolutely amazing," Prince said.  "The town, the people.  As a college kid being here, the acceptance they had of a Cajun boy from south Louisiana made it so sweet."

Since Prince was called up in early April, he's only gotten 5 at-bats for the Brewers.  He says the way he was brought up helps him perform whenever his number is called.

"I think it all goes back to growing up in a rodeo family," Prince said.

Prince's father B.B. competed in rodeo in college, and Josh also participated in the family sport growing up.  He says his rodeo experience helps him focus in baseball, especially when opportunities have been few and far between since becoming a Brewer.

"You have 8 seconds," Prince says of his days performing in rodeo.  "You're waiting all day, and then you have 8 seconds to ride a bull or a horse or something like that.  So you have to be able to flip the switch because it could have been life or death situations."

So as Prince continues to collects "firsts" his goal remains to lasso a regular role with the Brew Crew.  After all, if anyone is willing to a grab the "bull by the horns" to get it done, it's Prince.
