Hmong Association receives deed to Green Bay Hmong Center

Hmong Association receives deed to Green Bay Hmong Center from Mayor Jim Schmitt.

Green Bay, Wis.(WFRV)- It was a big day for the Hmong community of Green Bay.

Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt officially presented the Hmong Association with the deed to the Green Bay Hmong Center located at 401 North Street. For the last 30 plus years the building has been owned by the city's redevelopment authority.

Hmong leaders like Mary Kong, President of the Hmong Association believe it's an important step forward for the 7,000 Hmong residents living in Brown County.

"We've been here for a long time, and we're going to continue to be neighbors here. So it's something, the property deed being here, becoming land owners, we're really happy  to do that, and we want to continue our relationship with the community." said Kong.

The association must make the facility available to all the community's twelve clans equally or ownership will revert back to the city.
