Authorities warn of risky ice conditions

Authorities say those looking to be out on the ice should be extra cautious.

WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WFRV) - This is the time of the year people love to fish on the ice. The recent cold snap gave Lake Winnebago and other lakes a good layer of ice. However, with the fluctuating temperatures you can never be sure that it's safe.

Countless vehicles are parked out on Lake Winnebago that belong to ice fisherman. Don Herman of Sunk? Dive & Ice Service says 90 percent of Lake Winnebago is frozen, but you have to lookout for that 10 percent that isn't. Herman says the thickness of the ice range from 14 to 15 inches.

Local 5's Donald Robinson has details.
