Green Bay family continues to seek justice

A Green Bay family continues to seek justice for their daughter who was found dead three years ago in Miami.

GREEN BAY (WFRV) A Green Bay mother has not given up finding out the facts about her daughter's death. The aspiring model was found dead in a friend's Miami Beach apartment three years ago.

Back in March of 2010, 21-year-old Julia Sumnicht a UW-La Crosse student, went to Miami, Florida for spring break. Julia was out with some people and eventually made it home in the wee-hours-of-the-morning.

Toxicology reports show that no alcohol was in her bloodstream, but there was a high level of G.H.B., date rape drug, that caused an overdose.

The family doesn't feel the Miami Police Department has done enough and has hired two private detectives to investigate.

"I've been told that if you call a case closed or cold, it's never really closed," said Marie Sumnicht, Julia's mother. "If someone were to bring in a lead, they said they would work on it."

The Green Bay distillery is the site for a benefit concert to raise funds for the family of Julia Sumnicht. Proceeds from Sunday's event will go to funding the ongoing investigation and sponsoring a kennel at a local humane society.

"Julia loved animals," said Johanna Sumnicht, Julia's sister. "And that's an understatemnet."

No one has been officially charged.
