Kimberly Papermakers return home state champions

They defeated Oshkosh North in Madison
KIMBERLY, Wis. (WFRV) - It was a triumphant return home for the Kimberly Papermakers football team Friday night.

They are the division 2 state football champs after a 51-10 victory over Oshkosh North in madison.

A large crowd of friends and family were on hand for a special ceremony to welcome the team home, a day after they sent the team off with a pep rally.

Kimberly High School principal Mike Rietveld congratulated the team for its success and head coach Steve Jones thanked the team's fans for all their support.

Coach Jones says he's already looking forward to next year.

"The nice thing about going this deep into the playoffs is that you get the extra month of practice,” he says. So a lot of our younger guys get an extra month of practice here in November and hopefully that will carry over, but we'll get back to work in the weight room in the offseason.  That’s the foundation of our program so, we'll give them the rest of this week off and then it's back to work the following week."

As for the players, they're glad to see all that hard work pay off.

"It was just pretty surreal, to see it up front and close as a senior,” tight end Steve Jones says, “that we were like those ones we were looking to be like when we were young."

The win caps an undefeated season for the Papermakers.
