Packers Foundation gives out annual grants

The Green Bay Packers didn't have a game today, but that doesn't mean Lambeau Field wasn't busy.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - The Green Bay Packers didn't have a game today, but that doesn't mean Lambeau Field wasn't busy.

The Green Bay Packers Foundation held a luncheon this afternoon for recipients of its annual grants.

And a big winner this year was the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, which was awarded $250,000.

UW-Green Bay officials say the funds will help their Phuture Phoenix program, as well as help keep current students in school.

"The matching funds from the Packer Foundation helps our university to support children in college," says Kimberly Desotell, director of the UW-Green Bay Phuture Phoenix program. "One of the number one reasons that students drop out, and do not complete degrees, is financial hardship, and so these scholarship dollars help students all the way through to completion of their degree."

Other grant recipients include the Salvation Army of Green Bay, Golden House, and the American Red Cross of Northeast Wisconsin.
