Packers practice report: moving forward with Tolzien

Scott Tolzien took the 1st team reps Wednesday as the Packers look ahead to the New York Giants.
Scott Tolzien took the 1st team reps at quarterback Wednesday as the Packers look ahead to the New York Giants.

The former Wisconsin Badger signal caller will get his first NFL start on Sunday.

Matt Flynn will back up Tolzien.  He was signed back to his former team on Tuesday.  Flynn admitted following practice that he never thought he'd be back in the Packers' locker room after signing with Seattle following the 2011 season, but he's grateful for the opportunity.

Aaron Rodgers, who will miss his second straight game with a fractured collarbone, spent Wednesday's practice working with Tolzien and Flynn, serving as another assistant coach.

Clay Matthews practiced without the club protecting his injured thumb that he wore last Sunday.  Mike McCarthy said it was the natural progression of the recovery, that Matthews would require less and less protection each week.

The Packers will practice in pads on Thursday.
