Race for the Hungry

Shoppers across the area put their skills to the test for a good cause on Friday.
APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) - Shoppers across the area put their skills to the test for a good cause on Friday.

It was during the 5th annual "Race for the Hungry" at Festival Foods.

In Appleton, mascots for North Shore Bank and the Fox Cities Ice Dogs hockey team darted through the aisles to grab all the food that they could.

The groceries are then donated to support local food pantries like St. Joseph's and Trinity Lutheran church.

"We'll all of it really helps us, Karen Ziemke from the St. Joseph's food program says.  "It's because it involves the community and the need for food and its good that help use replace some of that stuff of our shelves."

$150 in Festival Foods gift cards were also award to the food pantries.
