ALLOUEZ, Wis. (WFRV) - With Christmas only 26 days away, people have put away the turkey and are hanging the tinsel.
But, finding the right tree can be like a treasure hunt.
"It is tradition and it is making memories together" says Katie Clark who is shopping for a tree with her husband and parents.
Like many families they are searching for the perfect Christmas tree.
"Well I wanted one with a bunch of branches and a nice pointy top for my star" says eight year old Jackson Fogarty.
"Well my mom is a little particular and she wants a Charlie Brown tree that she can see the ornaments on. Not too full, but it has to be tall" says Clark.
The trees come from the 150 acre Whispering Pines Tree Farm in Oconto.
If you are looking for the total tree experience, you can cut your own.
"It is a real fun family tradition out here" says Dave Vander Velden, who owns Whispering Pines Tree Farm.
"The Whispering Pines Express can take you on a ride out [to the trees]. We also have horse drawn wagons" he explains.
Free hot chocolate, a visit with Santa, and an ornament shop round out the tree buying experience.
However, shoppers say you cannot put a price on the best part.
"Seeing a little bit of my wife's childhood come alive when we come out here and pick out a real live Christmas tress" says Max Clark.
"Because we get to decorate trees and have lots of fun" beams Greta Fogarty.
Because this is the shortest distance possible between Thanksgiving and Christmas people are moving quickly onto the next holiday.
The Whispering Pines Allouez tree lot is on par to set a record at this tree lot for opening day.
"It is nice" Vander Velden says. "I tell you I get a lot of people saying thank you, people thank me for having this, creating memories. It is a fun family thing to do".
The tree lot and tree farm are open every day through Christmas Eve. Click here for more details on Whispering Pines.
