Pediatrician Dr. Melissa Waters explained, “The word alone makes everyone scratch, but parents need to know you do not have to do anything drastic to get rid of them”.
So, how do you get rid of them? Many parents find success by using Rid or Nix. These over the counter products can be found in your local pharmacy.
If over the counter products do not work, your doctor may prescribe new products: Sklice, Natroba, Ovide or Ulesfia.
Because lice is such a problem, the Food and Drug Administration continues to research oral medications that may be approved soon.
If someone in your house has lice, make sure to wash their clothes separately in hot water and dry them on the highest heat cycle.
Lice has nothing to do with hygiene and there is no need to shave your child’s head to get rid of lice.
There are businesses that will nit pick lice out of your child’s hair but can be very expensive. My advice would be to follow your doctor’s recommendation to a “T”.
