About Me:

Barrett Tryon helps get you caught up on the news of the day as anchor of Local 5 News at 4. You can also see him reporting on Local 5 News at 5 & 6.

He joined the team in August 2021.

He previously worked at WILX-TV in Lansing, Mich., as morning anchor. He was also morning anchor for KECI-TV in beautiful western Montana.

He began his broadcasting career in the early 80s, although not many people saw those first newscasts live from his parents’ back porch in Sarasota, Fla.

Barrett attended college at Drake University in Des Moines, while also working behind-the-scenes for KCCI-TV. He would later work at CBS News and Fox News Channel, both in New York City, a brief stint in Los Angeles chasing around celebrities, followed by a few years in the Rockies at KRDO-TV in Colorado Springs.

He also worked at WDAF-TV in Kansas City as a technology reporter, KLAS-TV in Las Vegas, and a second stint in Colorado Springs for KKTV-TV.

He was lucky enough to win an Emmy for “Best Newscast,” and was voted “Best Twitterer” for 3 years in a row in Colorado Springs by readers of two separate newspapers.

Barrett has also won, or was a runner up, for “Favorite TV Personality” in both Michigan and Montana.

In 2019, he was also named a runner-up to “Anchor of the Year” by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters.

When he’s not chasing down news, he’s probably chasing around his rescue pup, Cooper, googling “Barrett Tryon,” or combing his hair.

Feel free to email him with any questions or story ideas. If you’re a fan of dad jokes and bad puns, make sure you follow him on Facebook, too.
