Doing the Right Thing: Cheer team for all abilities

Doing the Right Thing

MANITOWOC, Wis. (WFRV) –  A newly formed team on the lakeshore is giving kids of all abilities the chance to cheer.

They are growing stronger and building their confidence.

At Galaxy All Stars, the Superstars Team is designed for kids of all abilities. “They love doing the things that everybody else does. Being able to be included in a program like this is super cool, that they can work alongside peers, and be able to show some success, even if they are not doing the exact same things as everybody else” says Kelly Schultz.

The program is a great way for her family to stay active. “We have 13 kids, we have six kids with disabilities so this program is super cool” she explains.

According to the owner of Galaxy All Stars, Eric Fisher, “It is not about how good they are, kids see it on TV and they want to do it. This gives them the opportunity to put on the makeup, the uniforms and all the bedazzle that goes with it, and they get to go and have a blast”.

The squad is working up to performing at a showcase or competition. “They were very, very shy the first time and have opened up quite a bit. They try doing all kinds of stuff at home too so they are practicing” Schultz says with a laugh.

Her kids are thriving, thankful to participate in a popular sport. “There is not just a world for kids with special needs, we all live together, so they need to be able to be alongside their peers”.

They are celebrating milestones and perfecting their routine with the support of the Superstars Team. According to Schultz “It takes a whole lot more for them to accomplish those things so it is a super big deal when they can”.
